Market Day was in the past a great occasion for farming families to make a rare visit to a town, sell their food produce, shop in the local all-purpose store, consult with the solicitor or bank manager, do a bit of match-making, have a few drinks with friends in the pub, take part in games on the common green or enjoy all the fun of the fair when it was in town.
