From 2004 until 2013, the Digital Enterprise Research Centre (DERI) located at the National University of Ireland/NUIG (now University of Galway) operated a comprehensive digital educational mentoring programme with schools in Galway city and county. This included supporting children and teachers in the making of videos on themes such as technology, science and especially on local history. The latter was part of its BEO heritage project which was about setting up an online repository of local heritage images, stories and films for the benefit of present and future generations.
BEO also, with the agreement of participating schools, individuals and organisations, digitised and uploaded films thye provided with similar subject areas.
