Clonbrock Demesne Tour
Georgian Mansion to Victorian Swimming Pool
A film documentary of a tour of Clonbrock demesne by the pupils of St. Patrick’s National School from nearby Fohenagh. Walking through the grounds of this once great landed estate, the youngsters provide an insight into the history of the once powerful Anglo-Irish Dillon family; explain in detail the Georgian architecture of Clonbrock House; recite a poem on the famous Hunt Ball of 1878; show footage of the extensive stables, servants’ living quarters and a rare outdoor swimming pool from the Victorian era. Information is also provided of the demesne’s economic activities during its heyday and of the servants and farmhands that maintained it by young narrators that are in many cases their direct descendants.
